Upon arriving at this Chateau the first thing you find is a closed gate from where it is necessary to ring an intercom so they can open it from the inside. Once past the gate, you drive slowly into the property until you reach the front of the Chateau, where there will be staff members who already know who you are, and are there waiting to welcome you, carry the luggage, and show to your room. All of this provides the first taste of the Chateau lifestyle. Once in the room, another staff member comes bringing complimentary white wine and appetizers; by then, you really feel like being in a high class place, and you are!

The residence of the abbots of Cîteaux, in the centre of Burgundy’s greatest vineyards (20 km south from Dijon)
The Cîteaux abbey was founded in the 11th century. There, the monks developed vineyards and built the château du Clos de Vougeot. They purchased the Priory of Gilly to make it their summer residence and store their wine. The château was completely renovated in the 17th century. At the Revolution, the asset was sold and became a farm. In 1978, the Regional Council purchased the château to make it into a theatre.
Finally in 1988, René Traversac acquired it in order to make it into a hotel. Two 14th century rooms survive today.
36 rooms, 12 appartments (the Abbot’s Pavilion has become a duplex of 120 m century Gothic hall for the restaurant, private conference rooms for business and meetings, a heated open air swimming pool in summer, tennis … cooking based on local Burgundian specialities and a remarkable cellar with more than 15,000 bottles.
